Where the ratings come from
The Rateora Index blends four independent review sources. Each source is captured once per calendar month, either automatically through the portal's API or entered manually by our editorial team from the insurer's public listing.

How the monthly index is calculated
- 1. Smooth each portal rating. Small sample sizes are pulled toward the all-business average so a handful of reviews can't distort a ranking:
adjusted = (n × rating + 25 × 3.60) ÷ (n + 25)
n = number of reviews on that portal, 3.60 = all-business baseline out of 5, 25 = confidence prior. - 2. Apply source weights. Adjusted ratings are combined using the weights listed opposite, renormalised over whichever sources have data that month:
index = ( Σ weightᵢ × adjustedᵢ ÷ Σ weightᵢ ) × 2
The ×2 converts the 0–5 portal scale to the 0–10 Rateora Index. - 3. Rank and compare. Businesses are ordered from highest to lowest index for the month, and each is compared with its own previous month to produce the up/down movement indicator.
