Where the ratings come from

Every score on Rateora comes from Rateora reviews and nothing else. We do not copy, aggregate or blend ratings from any other review website.

• Verified customersEach review must include proof of a real customer relationship — an invoice, job reference, policy number or a direct invitation from the business.
• Human moderationReviews are checked against our content standards before they are published, and can be reported and re-assessed at any time.
• No paid placementBusinesses cannot pay to rank higher, remove a review or change their score.

How the monthly score is calculated

1. 1. Average the published reviews. We take every published Rateora review for the business up to the end of that month and average the overall star ratings.
2. 2. Smooth small samples. Businesses with only a few reviews are pulled toward the platform baseline, so one review can't outrank a long, consistent record:

   score = ((Σ wᵢ·rᵢ + 5 × 3.80) ÷ (Σ wᵢ + 5)) × 2

   rᵢ = each customer's overall star rating, 3.80 = the starting baseline out of 5, 5 = confidence weight. wᵢ is a light recency weight, 1 + 0.25 × 0.5^(age in months ÷ 12) — newer feedback counts a little more, and older genuine reviews always keep their full base weight. The ×2 converts the 0–5 scale to the 0–10 Rateora score.
3. 3. Rank and compare. Businesses are ordered from highest to lowest score for the month, and each is compared with its own previous month to produce the up/down movement indicator. Equal scores are separated in a fixed order — more reviews first, then more recent review activity, then the latest review — so rankings never shuffle between page loads. Claimed, verified or paying status, reply rates and resolution rates never change a rating or a ranking position.
